This is the largest garbage dump in LatinAmerica. Daily, thousands of pounds of trash are dump here, and the “guajeros” pick through it to get food, clothing and items to sell. At most, they make $3 a day for a family of 4. The conditions are extremely unsanitary, as they have to go through everything, fight animals, avoid gangs, and stand the odor, with the hope of surviving one more day.

Children are brought to work, but because it is illegal, they hide at 4 in the morning by a cemetery, and as soon as the sun comes out, they slide down to the dump to get a headstart on the sorting of the trash.

It is hard to even describe with words the conditions these people live in.

BUT This is what Jesus is doing through Ministerios Libre Infancia for 40 children in a year. It is our desire for God to use us, join their efforts, and increase that number to hundreds of children who get an education, nutrition, medical attention, know Jesus and bring an end to the cycle of poverty that they see now as their unavoidable destiny.
